Christmas in Australia

Christmas in Australia

In Australia Christmas comes in mid summer. Their summer runs from early December to early February. Australian Christmas is very similar to Christmas in america. Australians who celebrate Christmas hang wreaths on their doors buy and decorate Christmas trees. People put lights all around their yards and houses. One street in Sydney raises over $35,000 every year. In each state capital city there is a large carols by candlelight service. Many towns, cities, and schools hold their own carols by candlelight service with local bands and choirs performing. When Santa gets to Australia he gives his reindeer a rest and switches them for kangaroos or 6 white boomers as Australians say. Also Santa changes his clothes for less hot ones.

Orion: Trial By Fire

Current Events

NASA launched the Orion spacecraft from Florida's Cape Canaveral and went into orbit Friday morning. This is the first test flight for a program that NASA hopes will eventually get astronauts to asteroids and mars. The 41/2 hour, uncrewed, 2 orbit flight is taking Orion farther from earth than any spacecraft designed for human flight since the Apollo 17 mission to  the moon. Orion is expected to splashdown in the Pacific Ocean, roughly 600 miles off the coast of Baja, California. The craft is expected to reach speeds of 20,000 mph when reentering the earths atmosphere.
